Although the third season of boys Leaving one of the original cast members dead, it won’t be the last thing fans of the character will see. If you’re confused, don’t worry, we’ll sort it all out for you in no time. But you’ll want to make sure you’re fully engaged in Season 3 because there will be spoilers.

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for the third season finale of The Boys.

Fans were denied a showdown between two former members of Payback, Black Noir and Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). The reason the two never had a confrontation is because Homelander (Anthony Starr), who finds out that Soldier Boy is his biological father, kills Black Noir for not telling him the truth. Actor Nathan Mitchell portrayed the compelling movie Black Noir in boys, except for the flashback episode that finally showed fans what Black Noir looks like under the mask. Fritzy-Klevans Destine played Black Noir in a flashback, which revealed how tragically disfigured his face is. With the death of Black Noir, one might assume that Nathan Mitchell’s services would no longer be required boys. Fortunately, showrunner Eric Kripke thought of a new way to keep Nathan Mitchell on the show, bringing Black Noir back again.

Kripke said Entertainment Weekly Mitchell will play a new character dressed as Black Noir in Season 4. The showrunner said he filled Mitchell in with his plans before they started filming season three: “I think I literally said something like, ‘Okay, so I’m going to say something and your stomach will go down, but then I’ll follow up with something and you’ll see it’s OK.'”

As Kripke put it comically, “a completely silent character in a black mask can be recast.”

Kripke revealed that Mitchell would not portray a “different character in a black noir suit”. “It’s definitely not the last we saw of Black Noir as a hero. He’s just the guy inside [the Noir suit] In the third season, he’s gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and fun character who wears the suit next season.”

It seems that whoever plays this new character played by Nathan Mitchell will probably find a copy of the Black Noir costume and decide to wear it. Could it be another sup? It remains to be seen, but it looks like it should make for a rather interesting side story.

There is a complex relationship between Black Noir and Soldier Boy. Thanks to an animated sequence that includes Black Noir’s fictional animal friends, we learn how Soldier Boy harassed Black Noir while they were in the redemption process. The flashback sequence featured a young Stan Edgar who recruits Black Noir to help take out Soldier Boy, resulting in him becoming a Russian prisoner. Before he could be caught, the boy soldier burned the Black Noir’s face, causing him not to speak again.

“Young Noir grew up going to this chain like a pizza chain called Buster Beavers. It’s like chucky cheese,” Kripke explained. “He sees the cartoon characters. They come alive and they have a lot of interaction with him.”

“Like everything on the show, it’s kind of this organic road to hell, I think,” Kripke added. “We wanted to see some kind of Noir The Dark Knight of the Soul. It’s hard to do because he doesn’t communicate. We knew we had to go inside his head and someone got down, like, he went into a hut. So I said, He should go to a hut, but all those snow white Moving creatures must fly around it ‘and we strongly indicated that they were always there. Then someone said, “Well, it might be a bit tacky. How about like chucky cheese? So it evolves.”
